Ormoc Tragedies

Ormoc Tragedies

We’ve heard the news about the tropical depression Uring. Early in the morning of this day I rushed to our Church Library where I work as a volunteer. This is located at the heart of the City, Real Street Corner Lopez Jaena St. I went there to keep all books that would possibly be wet due to the typhoon. After securing everything safely, I closed the Library and decided to go home immediately. As I went downstairs to wait for the tricycle, I have observed that the wind had a sound, a whistling sound, and the rains as it poured down the road it circulates to the ground. I’m a bit curious and afraid a little why the rains looked that way. Since there was no vehicle passed by the street I’m standing with, I transferred at Real Street and saw my neighbor driving pass by, I tried to flog him down, at first he refused to pick me up for the reason that he still need to fetch some students from St. Paul’s School at Mabini Street but I insisted because the rain was getting heavier. As I arrived home my older sister and older brother decided that we will stay at Don Felipe Hotel while there was still a tropical depression. So, we prepared for our lunch and planned to bring it at the Hotel and have lunch there. At past 11:00 Am our high school working student was shouting from the third floor of our house calling my mother . . . Nay! Nay! Ari ra gud sa taas Nay kay nagdinaganay lage ang mga tao sa ubos naa daw tubig nga dako! All of us (my mother, my older sister, and me while my older brother was outside preparing the car) rushed and went upstairs to see what happened. Just exactly we all arrived at the third floor the firewall at our kitchen part was broken and big body of water flashed at the ground. My kuya outside was shouting calling my ate, “Love! Love! Ayaw sarad-e ang pultahan . . .” And we told him that didn’t close the door it was the water. The last voice we heard of him was that he said, “ Love please make yourself safe, all of you.” Meanwhile, upstairs Ate was giving instructions as to who will hold or take charge of her eldest son and the younger one. But I said, we will just pray.

1991 FLASH FLOOD

It was a horrible day of all. I never thought to experience such strong typhoon ever in my life. The strong winds cause me to see how a wind looked like; it is almost like a fire wind with a sound of rat. I could not see our neighbor’s house not even the post of our very own house outside because the wind and the rain seem like smoke. I was already thinking that our house was carried by the whirlwind. I embraced my bible and kept on praying and singing the song STILL with the lyrics. . .Hide me now under your wings. Cover me within your mighty hands. When the ocean rise thunders roar. I will soar with you above the storm. Father you are king over the flood. I will be still and know you are God. Indeed God is true to His words of telling us for being with us all through the ages. God is faithful.

TYPHOON YOLANDA

First I’ve ever experienced this strong earthquake. We had a meeting with my Homeroom PTA Officers at past 4:00 in the afternoon the ground shook and we all duck but no cover but we hold each other it lasted for few seconds. I’ve been praying and again claiming God’s promises. Though, we’re sad because some lost their houses. July 10 was my birthday I was planning to go out at recess time to get the food at home and bring it to school for a salo-salo with my co-teachers but before recess time the ground shook again at 5.4 intensity some of my students collapsed and some were crying. But in general we thank God that we are all safe despite of everything. God is still worthy to be praised! In God’s Merciful Hands!
