Ormoc Tragedies

November 5, 1991—Ormoc Flashflood happened, leaving an approximately 4000 deaths, 3000 injured and 2500 missing in the raging waters. The worst hit area was Isla Verde hence it was located near Anilao River.

November 8, 2013—Super Typhoon Yolanda/Haiyan hit Ormoc City, Leyte. Roaring rains and lashing winds attacked our houses toppling it down, blowing some into pieces into the ground. The strong gust of winds seemed like a roaring truck in a full revolution. The aftermath of the typhoon left millions of damages to properties and livelihood. But we were still thankful for being alive.

July 6, 2017—An earthquake magnitude of 6.7 recently hit Ormoc with few casualties, millions of damages to properties and scaring a hell lot of us. Most of the greatly affected barangays were those near the fault line and epicenter located near the Tongonan area. Some people there were evacuated because the place was no longer safe to live in due to erosion or landslide.
