Ormoc Tragedies

Ormoc Tragedies

Typhoon Uring devastated the city of Ormoc last November 5, 1991 and I was 13 years old that time, a first year high school. That day I was at school attending classes but suddenly the bell rang declaring that classes were suspended. By that time, I went home hurriedly. Upon arriving home, me and my Mom packed up our things. At around 11 in the morning, water starts to elevate. Resulting to that my relatives swam up to our house. My cousin built a way for us to transfer from our roof to the other and again to another until we’ve reached a house were we felt safe. We stayed there until the water is gone. This is what I’ve experienced during the Flashflood.

Last November 8, 2013 Typhoon Yolanda hits Ormoc City. Early in the morning, we went to the barangay hall to monitor typhoon. Things in the barangay hall were kept so that it won’t get wet. When the wind became stronger many residents of our barangay evacuated to the hall. We let them stay upstairs for safety. Due to the wind, the roof flew causing us to go downstairs. We’ve monitored the water from Anilao River for the possibility that it will elevate. As the wind become stronger and stronger I’ve seen that the roof and the walls of our house was washed out. Luckily, we were able to survive the storm. Homeless but not hopeless.

Last July 6, 2017 I was in duty at the barangay hall. At first, there was a blackout. After a few minutes, I’ve felt the ground shaking. I didn’t go out of the hall because its door is made up of glass. As the shakings became stronger, I’ve decided to go out from the hall holding hands with a barangay kagawad who is also in duty that time thinking that the building might collapse. That time I was pregnant for 1 ½ months. Because of my fright, the baby inside my womb was aborted. That day or shall I say that incident will always leave a memory in me.
