Ormoc Tragedies

Ormoc Tragedies

The first disaster I had experienced was the typhoon Uring, Uring happened on November 5, 1991 that was 26 years ago. At that time, I was at the rice field. It was raining and the clouds were dark. Then, I went home quickly and when I came into my house, I heard the news that the people in the city were affected. Many people died and many infrastructures were destroyed. During this typhoon, I was so grateful because our house was 50 km away from the city so my family and I were not affected.

I had experienced the super typhoon “Yolanda” and this time my family and I were victims. It was 5:00 am in the morning when the typhoon began. I quickly secured my family members. My children transferred into the house of our neighbor and my wife and I stayed at home. We monitored everything and looked over on our foods, animals and the things left on our house. When the typhoon will be getting stronger and stronger and before the water level will get higher, we had to put all of these on a higher level already. But then, the storm arrived and the water level had gone to its highest level, we quickly transferred into our neighbor’s house. We saw everything happened on how our house fell down and also the houses of our neighbors, the children were crying and we were all praying at that time until the storm had stop.

The latest disaster I had experienced was the earthquake. It happened last July 6, 2017 4:05 p.m (Thursday) three weeks ago. That was an unexpected happening because I was having fun playing billiards with my neighbors, my wife was at home, my children were at school, and the others were at work. I did not know what to do at that time because I was not with my family. I was worried about my wife and children. There were barangays here in Ormoc that were greatly affected and had major damage. Houses, buildings, and bridges were damaged. Many children got traumatized especially those who were at school that day. And up to now, we’ve been experiencing aftershocks and a rotational brown out due to the damage of the earthquake. These things may happen again maybe right now, tomorrow and in the future. We just have to pray always and trust our heavenly God to keep us safe always and to lead us what to do whenever disaster comes.
