Ormoc Tragedies

Ormoc Tragedies

I have no idea of what was the actual situation of Ormoc City after Typhoon Uring destructed the place. I was a college student then in Cebu City and I was very much worried of my family since they were working in the city proper. Until such time that my father called me and said that they were all safe. He did not allow me to go home that time even if my roommates went home to console their relatives but instead, he instructed me to be home on Christmas break. I did not know his reason why but I followed what he said. When I went home on Christmas time, I did not see any bruises anymore about what happened then.

News was already heard days before Typhoon Yolanda hit Ormoc City. It was pre-empted that, it will be the strongest typhoon that will hit the Philippines. Several meetings about necessary preparations were conducted. My husband prepared everything for us like food, emergency kits, candles, water to drink, etc. Early morning of November 8, after we ate our breakfast, I made sure that my kids were with me and stayed in the safest area of our house, since rains already started falling and winds blowing. It was my husband who kept an eye of what was happening in and out of our house. When everything calmed down by 7 am, we thought that, that was all but we were wrong. Strong winds started to blow 15 minutes after. We cannot see anything outside. It was very dark. Winds became stronger until suddenly part of our roof were blown off and water came in. We also heard roofs from our neighbors’ houses blown everywhere. I really thought that, that was already the end of our lives. We kept on praying but winds blown were getting stronger and stronger. We struggled for 3 hours and that was quite long. Until 11 am, everything calmed again. After seeing what happened outside, I thought that was the most horrible typhoon that destructed us. But in spite of what happened, I was very thankful then that nobody was hurt among us. I didn’t care that our house was partly damaged as long as we were all together and remained strong in spite of what happened.

TYPHOON YOLANDA

July 6, 2017 at 4:05 pm I was still in school preparing the documents of my monthly accomplishments. When the building where I was started shaking. At first, I did not think that it was an earthquake since our school was along the highway and lots of big trucks passes by every now and then. I was used to it that the ground will vibrate every time it passes by. Until such time that I learned my pupils shouting and running outside. I rushed outside and cried because I remembered my children who were also in their school. I called my sister many times so that she can pick my children immediately in school. I was calmed only until my sister confirmed that they were with her already. When we met with each other 30 minutes after, we hugged each other because I know how they felt also during the shaking. And thank God that we were all safe.
