A Brief Profile

FORMER CHIEF OF STAFF AND DISTRICT PLANNING OFFICER to his wife, Congresswoman Lucy Marie Torres-Gomez, Mayor Richard I. Gomez (also fondly called “Goma”) had extensive preparation in the field of congressional work. For more than two (2) years even prior to the first term of Congresswoman Lucy, Richard had already immersed himself in local conditions in the City of Ormoc. He also completed 3 courses on Effective Legislation and Good Governance from the NCPAG, University of the Philippines.

A MASTERS DEGREE HOLDER IN BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION from the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta, Mayor Richard is also a Mass Communication graduate of the University of the Philippines in 1992, where he once received recognition as outstanding student. He also took up graduate studies at the Film School of Continuing Education of the New York University. Further, he is a product of the U. P. Open University System.

AN OUTSTANDING SPORTSMAN, Richard has won gold medals in fencing in 1997 (SEA Games), 2003 (Hanoi, Vietnam), and 2005 (SEA Games in Manila), setting national and international records in that sport. He also won two (2) silver medals in 1997 (SEA Games in Jakarta, Indonesia) and bronze medals in Thailand in the same sport. Locally, he was a 5-time national fencing champion (Dayrit Cup). He is the President of the Sporting Clays Association of the Philippines, and the President of the Philippine Fencing Association (PAFA).


A CHAMPION OF CAUSES INVOLVING THE YOUTH AND SPORTS. Formerly a Congressional Senior Consultant and Adviser on Illegal Drugs, Richard is more familiarly known as the National Chairman of the Mamamayan Ayaw Sa Droga (MAD). He is also a Member of the San Juan Jaycees.

A MAN OF FAITH AND A FAMILY MAN, husband to Lucy and a loving father to their daughter Juliana.
