800 preschoolers, aged two to 5, from four villages here are the beneficiaries of a 120-day supplementary feeding program that the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD), in cooperation with the Office of Congresswoman Lucy Torres-Gomez and Mayor Richard Gomez, rolled out on Monday, January 23.”
From the total number of children beneficiaries, 200 kids each were fed in four select barangays of Ormoc, namely: Brgys. Naungan, Linao, Tambulilid and Curva.
Richelle D. Salan, one of DSWD’s project development officers, said that the goal of the program is to normalize the nutrition status of the malnourished children.
It was learnt from Salan that the program was allotted P1.2 million for the whole timeframe of 120 days or four months. She further mentioned that the child development workers assigned in each barangay would conduct monthly monitoring of the children’s height and weight to assess their nutritional status compared to the baseline data prior to the conduct of the feeding program.
She also pointed out that foods served to the kids were carefully balanced by nutritionists and dietitians to ensure the nutritional value of the components to fit the needs of the malnourished children.
