Right after a joyous month-long Christmas celebration, Ormoc City, through its local government unit made sure to end the year with a bang, and welcome 2017 with a grand countdown on Saturday evening, December 31.
The city brought over renowned performers such as South Border, a Filipino pop and R&B lyric band, as well as Wowowin’s stand-up comedians, Super Tekla and Donito Nose, who partied with the locals and spread good vibes all night long.
The free concert yielded huge crowds from Ormoc and its neighboring towns, making the city quadrangle at full capacity, just like with the previous free concerts of equally popular bands Sponge Cola way back August, and Aegis during Charter Day in October, this year.
The countdown was also highlighted with magnificent fireworks display that lit up the dark sky. Even the rain in the middle of the night did not stop the people from having fun and pleasure while partying with the performers onstage.
Despite the threat caused by the recent bombing incident in Hilongos, Leyte, which almost led to the cancellation of the event, Mayor Richard Gomez, and city officials agreed to push for the countdown celebration.
The city government immediately called for an emergency meeting with the police, army, and coastguard to map out security plan and enforce full security measures for the safety of the revelers. Fortunately, no act terrorism was done during the festive celebration of the new year.
